Seward Matel authored a summer to remember, closing out the Wawenock Club Championship with a two-day total of 141 (+1) to claim his first title on the property — and his second club championship of the season. Matel arrived at Wawenock riding momentum from a Boothbay Harbor Country Club championship win in July, and he carried that form straight through both rounds to finish atop the field by six strokes.
Colin Mitchell turned in the tournament's best chase, posting 147 (+7) for a solid runner-up finish. Joe Taylor, the club's most decorated champion, came up short in his bid for a 15th title, finishing third at 149 (+9) — but not before showing he can still go shot-for-shot with golfers decades his junior. Damon Elinwood (154) and Drew Nichols (156) rounded out the top five, with Max Blake and Josh Arzate tying for sixth at 159 apiece.
The 2026 field also marked a notable absence: two-time defending champion Leo Gamelin did not return to defend his crown, already off to begin his freshman year of college. Stephen Wicks posted a 99 through a single round.
