As Wawenock Golf Club begins its centennial season, we are excited to introduce the Wawenock 100 newsletter, a new way to keep members and guests connected to everything happening around the club throughout this historic year. From course updates and tournament information to member stories, historical features, special events, and behind-the-scenes looks at the people who make Wawenock special, this newsletter will serve as a central hub for the club’s 100th season celebration.

The Wawenock 100 newsletter is designed to honor the club’s rich history while also highlighting the exciting future ahead. Over the coming months, readers can expect regular updates on centennial events, clubhouse and course improvements, league news, restaurant updates, volunteer opportunities, and memorable moments from around the property. Most importantly, the newsletter is intended to celebrate the sense of community that has defined Wawenock for generations and continues to make the club such a special place today.

We are open
Wawenock Golf Club officially opened for its centennial season on Friday, May 1, after ceremonial tee shots struck by longtime members Stan Wade and Anne Knott, along with Board of Trustees President Matt Poole.

Stan and Anne have over 60 years of combined membership and can be seen on the course riding around with the same group of people they’ve played with for decades.

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Protecting and maintaining the golf course remains our top priority at Wawenock, especially during this important centennial season. We kindly ask all golfers to pay close attention to cart signage and directional markers throughout the course. These guidelines are in place to help preserve turf conditions, protect sensitive areas, and ensure the course continues to improve and recover as the season progresses.

Please remain on designated cart paths where instructed and observe all rope lines, temporary restrictions, and directional signs during your round. Small decisions made by every golfer can have a major impact on the long-term health and playability of the course. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and commitment to helping keep Wawenock in excellent condition for all members and guests throughout our 100th season.

Volunteers needed
We’re fortunate to have a wonderful group of gardeners caring for many of the beautiful gardens throughout Wawenock Golf Club. Their efforts play a major role in maintaining the character and appearance of the club grounds throughout the season.

At the moment, we are looking for volunteers to help care for three gardens without owners: the #1 tee garden, the #6 hill garden, and the #8 rock garden. The #1 tee garden is especially important given its high visibility and role in welcoming members and guests to the course.

Garden care includes seasonal tasks such as spring cleanup, mulching, and adding new plants, along with occasional maintenance like weeding and watering as needed. The work is flexible and can be done on your own schedule.

If you’re interested in helping or would simply like more information, please contact Heather Hendrix at 585-802-9440 or Martha Flanagan at 347-776-0229.

League registration now open
League season is quickly approaching at Wawenock Golf Club, and members are encouraged to stop by the Pro Shop to sign up and secure their place for another exciting summer on the course. League play has long been one of the best ways for members to enjoy friendly competition, meet fellow golfers, and become more involved in the club community throughout the season.

The Women’s League is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 2, while the Men’s League will tee off in both morning and afternoon sessions beginning Wednesday, June 3. Whether you are a returning participant or interested in joining for the first time, the Pro Shop staff will be available to help answer questions and assist with registration. We look forward to another great season of league play during Wawenock’s historic centennial year.

Centennial book available
As part of Wawenock Golf Club’s centennial celebration, members are reminded that the commemorative book, Wawenock: 100 Years of Golf & Community, is now available for pickup in the Pro Shop. Every paying member is eligible to receive a complimentary copy of the book, which captures the rich history, memorable stories, photographs, and traditions that have shaped the club over the past century. Members are encouraged to stop by and pick up their copy while supplies remain available.

For those who would also like to explore the book online or share it with family and friends, a digital version is now available on the club’s website. The project represents more than a year of research, interviews, and collaboration by a dedicated volunteer team committed to preserving Wawenock’s history for future generations. Whether reading through the pages in print or online, the book serves as a lasting tribute to the people and moments that define Wawenock Golf Club.

Centennial celebration weekend set
Wawenock Golf Club’s centennial celebration weekend is officially set for Saturday, Aug. 1, and Sunday, Aug. 2, as the club prepares to honor 100 years of golf, friendship, and community. More information regarding schedules, registration, and event specifics will be shared in the coming weeks through the club’s website, social media platforms, and future editions of the Wawenock 100 newsletter. Your source for Wawenock information
Wawenock Golf Club encourages all members to continue sharing their thoughts, ideas, and feedback as the club moves through its historic centennial season. Members can send comments, suggestions, and questions directly to [email protected], which serves as an important communication tool between the membership and club leadership. Member input plays a valuable role in shaping the overall experience at Wawenock and in ensuring the club continues to move forward in a positive direction.

Members are also encouraged to sign up for text alerts to receive timely updates regarding course conditions, clubhouse information, restaurant specials, events, and other important announcements throughout the season. Along with text alerts, the club’s social media platforms, the Wawenock website, and regular updates published in the Lincoln County News will continue to serve as key sources for information during the 100th season. Staying connected through these channels will help members remain informed about everything happening around the club this summer.

Around the course
Progress continues toward the opening of both the driving range and the new 1926 Pub & Grille as Wawenock Golf Club moves further into its centennial season. Work remains ongoing in several areas, and the club appreciates the patience and support of members as these projects continue to move forward. Additional updates and opening details will be shared through the club’s website, social media channels, and future editions of the Wawenock 100 newsletter as timelines become finalized.

Members are also reminded that temporary tees remain in place throughout the course and are expected to continue being used for at least the next few weeks as the new turf continues to establish and strengthen. These measures are an important part of protecting the long-term health and playability of the golf course. The cooperation and understanding shown by members during this process have been greatly appreciated as the club works to ensure the course is in excellent condition throughout the remainder of the season and beyond.
